Who Are Smart Locksmiths

Smart Locksmiths is an independently run website that lists local independent locksmiths from all over the UK. Each listing contains direct contact details for the locksmith so the person who you speak to will more than likely be the person who comes out to you.

The business was launched in 2018 and went though a name change early on in its history changing from Lock Right to Smart Locksmith after it was pointed out that Lock Right was being used by another company just with a different spelling.

The brainchild of two veteran locksmiths, a web designer and printer Smart Locksmith was set up so that the public had a nationwide database of local, trustworthy, independent locksmiths, this first of it's kind

What Makes Smart Locksmiths Different?

Smart Locksmiths is the only independent database dedicated to and actually promoting the locksmith industry. Other websites do appear to offer a similar service but when looked into they don't. There are many UK Business directories that list every business or trades - these are aimed at marketing companies who use them for posting citations ( a comment SEO pratice) the website is not built to rank and get work for it's members

There are also a number of overprices locksmith franchises and national call centres where independent locksmith can register and get work. These sites operate from a single switchboard and when a customer rings they will contact the nearest members on their books.

These national call centres have been in the news quite a bit, accused of grossly overcharging, making customer s wait 6/7 hours and delivering poor workmanship, but why?

• Wait Times: The national call centre will ALWAYS have a locksmith available when you call even if their nearest member in 100miles away.
• Overpricing: Because of high monthly fees, the cut they take from all jobs and the fact that the call centre will send an engineer 50-100 miles the locksmith WILL try to get away with charging extortionate fees
• Poor Workmanship: Poor workmanship and overcharging are common placed because the locksmith can hide behind the franchise or call centres name and contact details, never revealing his/her actual contact information or even company name so there is no comeback for the locksmiths and if a customer report the locksmith to the franchise or call centre their answer is simple "All of our engineers are independent"

A standard listing on Smart Locksmiths is free however we have a number of members who pay a nominal monthly fee for a featured/premium listing.
